Abstract
Under contract W7707-155777/001/HAL, issued by Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) on behalf of the Technical Authority, DRDC Atlantic, VARD Marine Inc. have corrected and improved Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations of planar motion mechanism (PMM) tests performed experimentally in [2], with reference to similar simulations completed previously by VARD in contract W7707-145687/001/HAL [1]. A set of CFD simulations are performed for rotating arm tests in addition to the experiments in [2], and manoeuvering coefficients are derived from either static or dynamic tests and are compared. This comparison provided insight into seeking a technique for obtaining cost efficient computationally developed manoeuvering coefficients which are sufficiently accurate for development of regression equations.
