Abstract
This report presents the joint efforts of the Institut Saint-Louis (ISL) and DRDC Valcartier on the simulation of atmospheric turbulence and its effects on optical imaging, conducted within the framework of the Arrangement Spécifique 38. The meterological variability of the refractive index structure parameter C2n is analyzed using a Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) of the lower atomosphere. Its effects on imaging are studied using an original simulator. The methods for analyzing the meterological variability of C2n, close to the surface and aloft, are presented. The issues relating these topics to contemporary research are discussed.
