Abstract
A novel method to incorporate ship structural fatigue in a digital twin is presented and discussed. The proposed approach benefits from developments in oceanography, ship structure modelling, data analytics, and capture of operational data. The steps in the proposed method are presented and discussed along with its benefits, shortcomings, associated challenges, and required research. Relevant literature is reviewed. Although significant amounts of research are required to enable this technology, the potential benefits in future naval platform management and maintenance justify the effort.
