Abstract
A procedure to gain access to wave data from large wave hindcast datasets is described. This includes explaining how to create a database, how to populate the database with wave data in two binary formats commonly used for these data, and how to extract information from the database. This procedure will make it easier for readers to access freely-available hindcast wave data. Although the procedure has been developed to access NOAA and ECMWF hindcasts, it may be suitable for other hindcasts that use the same data formats.
