Abstract
The paper aims to highlight the major national interests Canada has in Latin America, particularly from a strategic point of view. This is done first through a very brief look at the major strategic issues of the region which affect or could in future affect Canada's defence. Following this is a discussion of Canada's economic stake in the region. Lastly there is an analysis of current trends at the internatonal level which may in future make Latin America more prone to destabilizing influences than is has been historically.
