Abstract
A survey is made of forward error correction (FEC) codes which have been developed to correct burst errors. These codes are examined for their suitability in the Aerosat channel which produces a combination of random and burst errors. The constraints imposed by the Aerosat channel and the impact of FEC are discussed. Finally an implementation of a rate 1/2 diffuse convolutional codec, which is well suited to the Aerosat channel, is described.
