Abstract
Optical, television, and digital electronic techniques are combined in the design of a fast response instrument for the measurement of sea surface slope. Slope is sensed by the refraction of a laser beam, which is detected by a modified television camera. The data rate is reduced to a manageable scale by digital logic, which produces an output directly related to slope. Detailed corrections are applied later by a general purpose computer.
