Abstract
A formula is derived for the expected number of hits by a salvo of weapons against a configuration of targets. The number of weapons in the salvo, the (x, y) coordinates of each target and the vulnerable area of the target in the x-y plane are assumed given. The weapon impact uncertainties include a salvo aim error, which is assumed to obey a bivariate-normal distribution about a nominal aim point on the x-y plane, and a ballistic dispersion factor for each individual weapon which also is described by a bivariate-normal distribution about the actual aim point.
