Abstract
The report summarises the results of experimental work performed on engineering proofing of the proposed ultrasonic probe for the End-on Detection of Cracks in Gun Barrels (Phase II of the contract). The purpose was to evaluate various geometrical configurations of the ultrasonic probes, to select the most suitable transducer material, and to evaluate the probe performance under a variety of situations (flat or C-shaped specimens, depth of field-i.e. detection of cracks at different depths below the surface, and achievable noise levels).
