Abstract
The report contains recommendations for the design of the destination portion of new route-displays proposed for TTC buses. The recommendations were primarily based on guidelines found in a search of the legibility literature. In some cases guidelines could not be found that were specific to the present situation and experimental studies were performed. The experiments investigated the relative legibility of upper- vs lower-case lettering, 1:8 vs 1:10 letter stroke width-to-height ratios, left- vs center-justification of the destinations and 2:5 vs 3:5 letter width-height ratios.
