GASEOUS SATURABLE ISOLATOR FOR A HIGH-GAIN CO2 AMPLIFIER CHAIN

Abstract
The use of a combination of gaseous N2F4 and C2H5OH in interstage optical isolators is reported to prevent self-oscillation of a TEA-CO2 amplifier chain. The results of a preliminary measurement of the absorption and saturation characteristics of N2F4 are presented. Single nanosecond pulses of 15 J are stably generated by inserting two such isolators along a 120-dB amplifier chain.
