OPERATIONAL MEASUREMENT OF DIVERS' CORE TEMPERATURES

Abstract
A non-invasive system has been developed to measure the core temperatures of divers in operational situations. The system consists of a disposable radio pill and a hand-held radio pill readout device. Although continuous temperature readings are not possible when the diver is under water, the thermal cost of a diving mission can be determined by measuring the diver's core temperature immediately before water entry and after water exit. This operational evaluation confirms that the "Unisuit" provides better thermal protection than the conventional neoprene wet-suit.
