Abstract
An n-paraffin analysis by High Resolution Gas Chromatography (HRGC)was developed and performed on 32 fuel samples. Several methods were investigated for PONA analysis resulting in the recommendation of a HPLC/GC(FID) technique. A simulated distillation was developed along the guidelines of ASTM D-2887 using HRGC data. All 32 fuels were reported. Aromatic group identification was investigated by a UV technique. Six fuels were analysed with low confidence in the results and a reiteration of an HPLC recommendation. A quantitative 13C NMR and proton NMR technique has been employed to provide data on the molecular composition of middle distillates with aromaticity of a fuel being directly and easily obtainable from 13C NMR alone.
