Abstract
Dextran sulphate (DS), a synthetic heparinoid polyanion, has been shown to be effective in mobilizing leukocytes and haemopoietic stem cells into the peripheral blood of mammals. We are currently studying the effects of DS on the haemopoietic system to determine its mode of action in enhancing haemopoietic recovery after radiation damage, as well as to find ways to increase its effectiveness.
