LINEAR MODELS FOR PREDICTING AGE IN OTHER RANKS TRADES

Abstract
The paper investigates the feasiblity of predicting age information for Other Ranks trades given other parameters such as Years of Service (YOS), rank and engagement type. Several current models such as the Other Rank Career Development Plan (ORCDP) Dynamic Model (Dynam6) do not use age explicitly and rely on YOS only. If simple age transformation equations were available, then results from these models might be converted into age by means of linear relationships. It is shown that the YOS parameter alone can be used as an accurate predictor of age for large trades and for groups of "trade families". Addition of rank or engagement type parameters adds little improvement to the linear models.
