Abstract
An architecture for an Acousto-Optical Receiver using a wide dynamic range photodiode linear array and custom processing architecture is proposed. The tradeoffs in relation to the Acousto-Optical receiver requirements and available technologies are analysed and details are presented. The building blocks of the custom architecture are given and the features are discussed with respect to the design goals. We established that a receiver capable of identifying short time pulse and continuous wave radar signals can be implemented using a small number of custom CCD, NMOS, or CMOS integrated circuits. A photodiode linear array incorporating DALSA INC's wide dynamic range detector and custom fabrication techniques will achieve an optimal balance of crosstalk, quantum efficiency and blooming immunity.
