Abstract
The work consists of a theoretical description of the phased-lock loop (PLL) behaviour affecting sweep frequency signal acquisition. The empirical formula for the allowable sweep rate previously cited in the literature is given some theoretical justification as well as being extended to cover the case of non-sinusoidal phase detectors and sinusoidal phase modulation. Expermental measurements are given for the statistics of PLL sweep acquisition. The advantages of various phase detector types and PLL circuit configurations are discussed.
