Abstract
Gives the full details of the experimental procedures used and the data obtained during the study of the crater produced by the detonation of 500 tons of TNT in a spherical configuration tangential to the surface of undisturbed lacustrine sands and silts. The overall programme associated with this detonation has been nicknamed PRAIRIE FLAT. The overall morphology is compared with several other craters, notably to the 1961 crater produced by a 100-ton detonation. It is shown that there is precise agreement in all major facts of the morphology.
